Using Google as a research aide for her thesis on money laundering was a common occurrence of one individual law school student. As you can imagine, this was definitely a great tool to her in the process of writing her thesis. To her dismay, her method began to break down when she typed in key terms and they led her to an annoying website not pertinent to money laundering at all Though she originally believed it was a glitch in the internet search systems, the persistence of the annoyances led her to believe that she had been bugged. As far as irritations go, human beings that bug us are the most easy to fend off. Defending ourselves from the attacks of the adware and spyware that infected the student's computer is harder to do. As her computer was primarily for personal school-related use, the student's technology skills were constricted to the most basic of online research and writing. Many computer problems that give people like the student in the above scenario difficulty are caused by spy-ware and ad-ware. It was not until the year 2000 that many people began using the expression 'spy-ware' despite the fact that it had first been used in 1995. This is a computer software program or script innocently infiltrated onto a personal computer to be able to access personal information of the user. Keystrokes, browsing history, and the contents of a hard drive all provide this valuable information. Though spyware employs the kind of methodology that sounds like it came out of a James Bond movie, anyone can be a victim. Infiltrations such as these are basic privacy violations and the people targeted are indeed innocent victims. Spyware may help track criminals and their activities, but this type of program is used far more often for such vile activities as tracking credit card information from unsuspecting victims. Anti-spyware programs that are kept updated are essential for any computer user. An Integral part of protecting your computer includes blocking spyware and the ever threatening adware. Online adware and spyware blocker programs are easily available to help in this endeavor. Blocker programs function by disabling already installed malicious programs and preventing any additional installations of the programs. Though they are not self replicating like viruses or worms, spy-ware, ad-ware and malware can be equally annoying to computer users who do not like their interferences with their daily routines. Frequently, the 'harmless' spying can result in slowing down the entire computer system so that running the system or any of its programs takes forever. Nothing is worse than a crime that goes without punishment, but many spyware programs are able to evade detection. Because of the nasty nature of the infiltration programs, it is always best to have a great blocker to prevent the infections from happening.
